Asaduddin Owaisi had alleges Congress offered him 25 lakhs to cancel AIMIM rally in Telangana
HYDERABAD: The chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, has alleged that the Congress had offered him Rs 25 lakh for the cancellation of their rally ahead of the assembly elections in Telangana.
The three-time parliamentarian from Hyderabad said that he has an audio recording to prove. The Congress has refuted the charge.
On Monday while addressing a rally in Nirmal, Mr Owaisi said that, "Majlis (his party) ka jalsa rokne ke liye Rs 25 lakh party fund deta hoon (They offered Rs 25 lakh for party fund if we cancelled our rally). What do you call such a party that is doing such a thing?. Owaisi can sacrifice his life, but can't sell his promise. Nobody can buy me," the AIMIM chief said.
Meem Afzal the Congress leader who slammed Mr Owaisi's claim and said, "They don't have any proof and no proof is needed because it's a lie. When Mr Owaisi speaks on any issue, he always supports the BJP. Why would the Congress try to talk to those who are with the BJP. The Congress has emerged as a strong party in Telangana, which is why he is making these allegations."
It was alleged by Rahul Gandhi that Asaduddin Owaisi also shares the ideology of BJP which is hatred and divisiveness. "The BJP, TRS and AIMIM are hand-in-glove," Mr Gandhi said.
The AIMIM will be contesting with seven seats in the old city of Hyderabad. Akbaruddin Owaisi who is the younger brother of Asaduddin Owaisi will be contesting from Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad. The party has seven lawmakers within the state legislative assembly which had been dissolved in the month of September.
Polling in the state of Telangana has been scheduled for December 7 and the votes will be counted on December 11. The results of the four other states where the assembly elections are being held are Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan where it will be declared on the same day.
