Welcome change for transgender community : nomination received from Goshamahal constituency
HYDERABAD: A moment of history for the political arena of Telangana, a person from the community of transgender has registered for the nomination from Goshamahal constituency to contest in the upcoming elections.
The trans woman named Chandramukhi Muvvala, has filed her nomination for the Bahujana Left Front (BLF) ticket, Chandramukhi aims to fight for the equal rights and against atrocities on transgender persons if she wins.
By actively protesting against the atrocities on her community since several years, Chandramukhi said that she had always wanted to take part in the electoral politics to make a policy-level decisions for the transgender community.
“Politicians promise several things to make our lives better, but they do not even talk about them after the election period. Big parties like TRS, Congress and BJP never gave a ticket to a trans person in the state. I think BLF is the only party which cares about equal rights,” Chandramukhi said.
This step has created a significant moment for the people of the transgender community who often find themselves on the edge of the society. “I think it is about time that the transgender community o f the state has rightful representation.
Our community usually does not come out to vote because political parties never bothered to include our issues in their manifestos. With a member from our own community contesting in elections this time, we are hoping there will be some positive change,” said Rachana Mudraboyina, the president of the Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti.
