Woman inspector from Central Excise and Customs department threatened with rape
A 40-year-old woman inspector of the Central Excise and Customs department, who was on a vacation in Bengaluru, was threatened with rape by three men at a pawn shop near Happy Land Supermarket which is located in Iblur.
According to the complaint that was registered by Aruna (name changed), a man came to the pan shop and took a cigarette from the owner. “He did not pay for it and got into an argument with the owner. He left the spot and returned in a couple of minutes with two other men. They started fighting with the pan shop owner. I wanted to stop the situation from turning ugly and asked the trio to pay for the cigarette. They manhandled me, touched me inappropriately and abused me. I understood only ‘rape’ as I don’t know Kannada. But I recorded their act on my mobile and warned them that I was going to complain to the cops,” said Aruna, who had gone to the shop after a party.
Aruna had dialled 100 and a Hoysala patrolling vehicle arrived to the spot and detained the men. Police have arrested Praveen, 29, and his friend Muni Venkata, 24, who are both cab drivers from Iblur. An investigating officer from Bellandur police station said that, “The third man she mentioned was not involved in the incident. The two held are regulars at the shop. They had taken cigarettes on credit before too. They got triggered when she interfered.”
