HD Deve Gowda writes to HD Kumaraswamy
BENGALURU: HD Deve Gowda the former PM and JD(S) supremo had made a special request to the government of HD Kumaraswamy of extending the lease period of the JD(S) office in Bengaluru to 99 years.
The office space of the party which is located in Seshadripuram has been leased by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike for 33 years with its effect from March 3, 2020. The monthly rent for the 40,401 sq ft property (site no. 19/1) would be Rs 12,000.
On November 15th in a letter to the urban development department, Gowda had said that “The state government has given sites on lease to political parties, including Congress, BJP, CPI and CPM. The JD(S), too, has contributed politically, socially and culturally to the state, it is important for the party to have an office that would enable the party and its workers to work towards the welfare of the people.”
Gowda pointed out that the Congress office which is located on Miller Tank Road was given on a 99-year lease in the year 1993.
The JD(S), which lost its office on the Race Course Road due to a legal wrangle with the Congress, was given a plot near Krishna Flour Mill on November 23, 2016 and the 33-year lease period will be in effect from March 3, 2020. Following this, the party had also constructed a building after obtaining the necessary approvals and christened it as JP Bhavan.
