Annoying act of BMRCL replaced from whistle-blowing to megaphones

BENGALURU: After stopping the ‘annoying’ act of whistle-blowing practice, the BMRCL has now decided to use the megaphones for the purpose of asking passengers to step behind the yellow line every time a train enters.

Ajay Seth, the managing director of BMRL said that, “During peak hours, commuters crowd the entrances despite there being space inside. Megaphone is useful to reach out to more people. We also use it to inform the public about the arrival of six or three-car trains.”

Apart from the ramping up of infrastructure and adding more trains/ coaches, tweak timings to increase the frequency. The BMRCL must make use of the smart technology that is available to ensure hassle-free travel for passengers. Commuters too should shoulder the responsibility. After all, self-discipline is the best discipline. 

“It’s difficult to manage crowd during peak hours. We’ve to ensure men don’t enter the first coach in the six-car trains and also in the first two entrances of the three-car trains. Also, passengers should not cross the yellow line. Some people don’t listen to us despite several requests. These megaphones seem useful,” said a guard.

Each day, around 4 lakh passengers use the Namma Metro on an average basis. By the 25th of March, trains will be comprised of six coaches. All the 50 trains will be upgraded from the existing three coaches to six by September 2019.
