Two HAL policemen get honoured by Whitefield police for saving a 45-year-old man

 BENGALURU: On Monday morning among the 30 personnel who were to be honoured for exemplary service by the Whitefield police had also taken two HAL policemen, who saved a 45-year-old man from being lynched by a mob earlier this year.

On the 30th of June, the HAL head constable Honnesh N, who is 38 years old and the constable Parashuram Majjige, who is 27 years old, had saved Chandrakumar, who was being thrashed by the locals who suspected him to be a child-lifter, especially after such fake messages that were being widely spread on WhatsApp.

The police were either standing around and watching indifferently or helplessly as the mobs were ready to thrash and also to kill the suspected offenders. But the quick-thinking by the two policemen which came out as a sweet-smelling breath of fresh air. Not only did they prevent murder, but they also got an offender in jail. 
 
“We were near Marathahalli bridge when we got an alert from the control room to go to Doddanekundi where public had caught a ‘child-lifter’. When we reached the spot, we saw at least 30 people armed with weapons assaulting Chandrakumar. The mob was in no mood to listen to us. I told the mob that another four-five members of the gang have been caught and we just want to get a confirmation about them from Chandrakumar. The mob’s attention was diverted. Without wasting a minute, we bundled Chandrakumar into our patrol car and rushed to the police station,” said Honnesh.

Eventually, it was revealed that Chandrakumar was actually a drug peddler and had come to meet his customers. He was booked under the NDPS Act and has been sent to jail.

Deputy commissioner of police (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad said that, “We will honour these officials with Rs 5,000 cash prize and sanction them four days of paid leave. We have insisted that they should take their family on a trip. It is an attempt to appreciate the exemplary work by policemen and encourage them to have some time out.”
