On Sunday in Labourers Colony in Bidar, about 690 km from Bangalore the incident took place. Lalitamma, 45, and her sister-in-law Durgamma, 50, who were walking past the temple in the morning when they had noticed Devendrappa throwing stones, a broomstick and a pair of slippers into the temple.
They yelled at him and scolded him for disrespecting the temple. They had also told him to stop throwing things into the temple. This annoyed Devendrappa who picked up a log lying close to him and started swinging it at the women.
Lalitamma took the first blow and fell. Durgamma stepped in to save her and the log landed on her head too. Both the women collapsed but Devendrappa did not stop. And he continued to beat the women vigorously.
The women were rushed to the hospital where they took their last breath. Devendrappa was arrested after a brief chase. Police said that they would be conducting an examination to establish if Devendrappa is mentally unwell.
