Congress demand enhanced security for top leaders
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy on Monday demanded that the security of top leaders of Congress party in view of increased threat perception.
"The threat perception for Congress leaders in Telangana State has increased, especially in view of the attacks held on our leaders before and on the polling day on Madhu Yashki Goud, K.S. Ratnam, Pilot Rohit Reddy and myself. We regret to say that the State Police or the Security Review Committee (SRC) did nothing to conduct any periodical assessment of threat to opposition leaders. In fact, it appears that the SRC, instead of working as an independent body, acted on the directions of ruling party and reduced the security of important leaders without any valid basis. The security of Congress leaders has been taken very lightly and they have been exposed to various kinds of threats," Gudur Narayana Reddy said in his representation to Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy.
The Congress leader said that the security of many important leaders was so weak that any anti-social element could walk into their office or residence or stop their vehicle mid-way to carry out an attack.
While appreciating the DGP for increasing the security cover for TPCC President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Gudur Narayana Reddy urged the DGP to take immediate measures to enhance/provide security to all important leaders. He demanded that besides him, adequate security should also be provided to Vijayashanti and Madhu Yashki Goud.
