KALYAN: On the 18th of December the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the bhoomi pujan (ground-breaking ceremony) of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) whose distance is  said to be about 23.6 km from Kalyan-Bhiwandi-Thane Metro.

The metro had been promised by Modi, at his last rally which was held before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Modi will be visiting Maharashtra for the first time, after the BJP had lost elections in five states, especially in three major Hindi heartland states, which include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

MMRDA, which is building the Metro, found out after a study that the population residing along the route will be doubled in the coming years. It also found that Kalyan will be witnessing around 46 lakh residents by 2031, while the neighbouring Bhiwandi population will increase from 6.8 lakh to 13 lakh.
