Karnataka MLAs seek to hoist the national flags at Taluk centres

BELAGAVI: The requests made by MLAs from the state, three members from the JD(S)-Congress coalition sought the state government intervention in allowing them to hoist the national flag at Taluk centres during important days like Independence Day and Republic Day.

The question raised by Gurmitkal JD(S) MLA Nagangowda Kandakur , asking government to seek the permission from centre’s in amending the existing Flag Act and also allow them to hoist the flags at the headquarters of taluk.

Every Independence day, the prime minister hoists the national tricolour atop the Red Fort in New Delhi, Chief minister at the Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru. The district incharge ministers at the district headquarters and Tahsildars at the taluk level.

K R Ramesh Kumar said that the request to allow MLAs to hoist the national flag at headquarters of taluk which was already struck down by the centre previously but it was up to the government whether it wanted to once again place a request before the Home Minister in this regard.

Chief H D Kumaraswamy said the government will certainly try to convince the Union Home Ministry in this regard.
