Telangana has grand plans to change Hyderabad into Shanghai
Hyderabad: After a grand Victory in 14 of 24 seats in Greater Hyderabad in the recently concluded Assembly Elections, the Telangana State Government looks like its all geared to scale up infrastructuctre work to bring Hyderabad up to world top class standards and even improve on city's civic amenities. even the 68, new municipalities are expecting to get an Infra upliftment.
Chief minister K chandra shekher Rao himself set the tone by asserting that Rs 50,000 crore would be spent on the creation of urban infrastructure in the next three years. Focus areas are underground drainage, streetlighting, parks, pavements and roads. Two meetings have been convened with 68 new municiplaities on preparation of an action plan at micro level.
Apart from focusing on creating infrastructure in GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitian Development Authority, (HMDA) Jurisdition and newly created urban local bodies, the MA&UD department has decided to engage a consultancy to draw a comprehensive plan.
So far the Greater Hyderabad had taken only 25% of the total infra works in the last few years. More flyovers, skyways , stormwater drains, underground cabling, top-class roads, streetlights, pavements, parks and other civic bodies from part of the grand plan to turn Hyderabad into another Shanghai. a senior GHMC official averred.
For the city's transformation a sum of 12,000 crore alone is required for widening stormwater drains which could rid the city of waterlogging in monsoon and clogging of drains.
In GHMC limits, while continuing with the existing infrastructure works like construction of Flyovers, skyways and improvement of junctions under the Strategic Road Development Plan( SRDP). New plans would be rolled out soon, an official said the sources.
