Update: 2019-01-05 01:41 IST

Hyderabad: Telangana Civil Supplies Department is implementing new measures to smoother and benefit ration beneficiaries in availing basic commodities. Department introduced IRIS policy for supply of ration commodities.

Last year ePOS (Biometric) system was introduced to supply ration commodities. But, ePOS machine is unable to authorize some fingerprints mainly of elder people and women as their finger prints are having rashes or wiped off. Because of this difficulty some beneficiaries are facing to avail ration commodities every month.

Civil Supplies Department gave powers to VRO, VAO, Civil Supplies Inspectors to one time authorization to solve this problem. But in some cases it came to the notice of Commissioner that at some places this authorization is been misused. To tackle this problem Iris method has been introduced. IRIS system is implemented phase wise in all the 17,200 ration shops state wide.

From this month 1st onwards IRIS is implemented in 5186 shops in 16 districts. On Friday, Commissioner for Civil Supplies Department Akun Sabharwal inspected IRIS performance at Sircilla and Siddipet Districts FP shops.

The Commissioner said that this system will be introduced in all the FP shops state wide and make sure that no malpractices are reported. This IRIS system will help poor people especially elder people to avail their monthly ration regularly without any difficulty.

In first phase IRIS is implemented in 5186 FP shops out of 8635 shops in Adilabad, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet, Khammam, Nalgonda, Kothagudem, Gadwal, Nirmal, Bhuvanagiri, Mancherial, Kamareddy, Jagitial, Siddipet, Mahabubnagar, Sircilla and Peddapally districts from 1st of this month.
