Night-traffic ban on the state highway-90
BENGALURU: On Wednesday the high court had ordered notices to the state and central governments in a PIL for seeking the night-traffic ban on the 11km stretch of the state highway-90, which passes through the Nagarahole wildlife reserve.
As per the petitioners HM Prakasha and AM Mahesh, the night-traffic ban which is held on the Mysore-Virajpet Road near Matthigodu elephant camp is needed for the security of the right way for Asiatic elephants.
They have claimed that the expert committee which was constituted by the forest department in the month of March 2018 to investigate the deaths of elephants and to suggest measures for it's prevention, which has failed to progress during the last 10 months.
For the roads which pass through the forest, railway fences have been installed by the forest department and electric fences by land owners which are death traps for elephants, they added.
