President Ram Nath Kovind conferred six children with Bal Shakti Puraskar

Bengaluru: On Tuesday the President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan conferred six children and one institution from the state of Karnataka with the Bal Shakti Puraskar and Bal Kalyan Puraskar.

The children are, Mohammed Suhail Chinya, Arunima Sen and AU Nachiketh Kumar under the innovation category, Pratyaksha BR for social service, Vinayaka M for arts and culture and Nikhil Jituri in the bravery category. Rangakahale, a child development institution working for underprivileged kids, was honoured with Bal Kalyan Puraskar.

The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is being given in two categories. Twentysix children have been awarded with the Bal Shakti Puraskar (earlier called National Child Award) based on different aspects like innovation, social service, scholastic, sports, arts & culture and bravery. The bravery award is the newest addition to the list. Each award is comprised of a medal, a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, book vouchers worthing upto Rs 10,000, a certificate and a citation. The children will be participating in the Republic Day parade.

The awardees have been shortlisted from the 900 applications which were received on a special portal that was created for this purpose. The winners were selected through a stringent process of critical analysis performed by a committee comprised of experts from disciplines like sociology, psychology, mathematics, science, art, music and sports.
