Man poses to be a cop and cons three people

MYSURU: The probe of the impersonating police officer case has stated that the accused Siddappa, 28, had also cheated others in the state. In the native of Haveri, Siddappa had blackmailed a policeman in Mysuru, but he was arrested before he could extort money.

As per the Udayagiri police, Siddappa had collected Rs 40,000 from a youth in Manvi on the pretext of getting him a job in the police department. When the youth encountered him for the first time, he was in plainclothes and he had claimed to be having contacts in the police recruitment board.

Siddappa had also cheated another youth belonging to Chitradurga of Rs 25,000. He posed to be as Bhavika and befriended the youth on Facebook. Siddappa then met the youth, posing to be a sibling of Bhavika, and threatened, him claiming that he was cheating Bhavika. He blackmailed the youth to give him Rs 25,000.

A few months ago, Siddappa tried to cheat a cop in Davanagere, by creating an accident story to collect Rs 2 lakh from the victim for treatment. He had been interacting with the cop, posing as a police officer from Bengaluru.

A sub-inspector Jayakeerthi who is connected to the Udayagiri police station, said, “So far, he has revealed three other cases outside Mysore. We don’t know how many other cases he is involved in.”
