BENGALURU: On Friday the chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had met the governor Vajubhai Vala for finalising the dates of the joint and budget sessions of the legislature.

The governor had extended the invitation to address the joint session on February 6 which will be followed by the budget session, most likely to be held from February 8. The budget could be in favour of the farmers, keeping the Lok Sabha polls in mind. Sources have said that the government will earmark adequate funds for the Rs 46,000-crore loan waiver commitment made to the farmers.

On Friday, Kumaraswamy had also met the organisation of the farmers as a part of his pre-budget meeting. Some leaders have claimed that the CM promised them a farmer-friendly budget.

Bandeppa Kashempur the co-operation minister, had attended the meeting, and said that the CM had announced farm loan waiver last time and he would be protecting the interests of the farmers in the budget. He said the issues that are being faced by farmers on the loan waiver are, for instance, names not matching with those on Aadhaar cards the ones which were being addressed with tahsildars’ help. “We’re removing some clauses to make it easy for farmers,” he added.

Kashempur had said that the farmers wanted the genuine Minimum Support Price for the crops and the implementation of the Swaminathan Committee report.
