Hyderabad HC seeks clarity on Revanth's arrest from govt

Update: 2019-02-07 20:24 IST

The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday sought an explanation from the state government over the arrest of Revanth Reddy during assembly elections. Revanth has filed a petition stating his arrest as illegal and demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh from the government.

The bench comprising of Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice T Amarnath Goud adjourned the hearing to February 25 after the advocate general BS Prasad told the court of looking into the sequence of events which preceded to the arrest of Revanth Reddy.

However, the petitioner's counsel CV Mohan Reddy objected BS Prasad's contentions who asked the court to close the matter as Revanth was already released. The AG also asked the petitioner not to level allegations against the government and the police. CV Mohan Reddy told the court that it cannot close the matter as it would drive home a message that the police enjoys uncontrolled powers and behaves in the same way with the public. He sought an apology from the government along with the stated compensation.

Meanwhile, BS Prasad intervened and said that they have arrested Revanth following the party intentions to create chaos at the chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's meeting. The AG told the court that he will produce the details before court soon.
