BENGALURU: Regarding the attack on party MLA Preetham J Gowda at his residence, the BJP has shifted its focus from demanding a judicial inquiry into the recorded conversations attempts to wrest the initiative on the audio clip controversy.

On Thursday in the legislative assembly, the speaker KR Ramesh Kumar had directed the government to provide adequate security to Preetham and his family.

In a recording of BJP leaders including state president BS Yeddyurappa, trying to coax Sharanagouda Kandakur, who is the son of a JD(S) MLA, to join the saffron party, Preetham purportedly said that, “Ours is a national party and it will be there as long as the sun and moon exist. Deve Gowda’s wicket will fall soon. Kumaraswamy has health issues. So, the JD(S) will soon vanish.”

R Yeddyurappa, leader of the opposition, said not only did JD(S) workers attack Preetham residence with stones, but they also threatened his parents with dire consequences. “Preetham mother was crying inconsolably when we visited her on Wednesday and she pleaded with us to protect her son,” Yeddyurappa said.

He said police was being misused to foist false cases against party workers and the BJP leaders are not being extended police protection. “I will personally speak to Union home minister Rajnath Singh about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. I will send a copy of the FIR registered in Hassan to both the governor and Singh.” Yeddyurappa said.
