BENGALURU: On the 6th of February, at least 10 MLAs from the ruling coalition defied the whip and failed to turn up for the Budget session which began with the addressing of the Governor to the Joint Houses of the Legislature. Those who had doubted the operation Lotus of Yeddyurappa started to believe that he would succeed this time.

Yeddyurappa after successfully stalling the speech of the  Governor, also ensured that there was no proceedings in the Assembly the following day as well. But when the Assembly was adjourned on February 14, Yeddyurappa lost his cool. He is now set to face a criminal prosecution for creating plans to oust the government by making the MLA of the rival party resign.

The Chief Minister had in his possession — an audio tape of Yeddyurappa luring son of JD(S) MLA with money and ministerial berth to become a turncoat. A phone call from Sharanagouda, son of a first-time MLA Naganagouda Kandkur from Gurmitkal in Kalaburagi, to the Chief Minister provided an opportunity for the latter to save his government and turn the tables on the BJP in general and Yeddyurappa in particular.

As Yeddyurappa turned the tables by releasing a two-year-old video clip of Kumaraswamy seeking Rs 25 crore from a JD(S) leader to make him MLC.
