Nizamabad farmers stage protest on NH44 demanding high prices for turmeric, red jowar

Farmers of Armoor in Nizamabad district staged a protest demanding remunerative price for turmeric and red jowar. The farmers also blocked the National Highway 44 at Perkit and Jakranpally on Saturday night affecting the traffic on Hyderabad and Nagpur route. However, the police diverted the traffic to alternative routes.
Over 2,000 farmers joined the protest and demanded Rs 3,500 for a quintal of Red Jowar. As the farmers blocked the road for about 13 hours, the police arrested them around 2 am on Saturday. Speculating an agitation, the police imposed 144 section in Armoor.
On the other hand, the farmers decided to lay seige the collectorate in Nizamabad tomorrow.
