Finance Commission members visit SWR schools

Hyderabad: The members of the 15th Finance Commission visited Social Welfare Residential school Gowlidoddi today to get a first-hand information about the functioning of residential schools in the state of Telangana. 

A team led by Dr Ashok Lahiri, member, 15th Finance Commission, interacted with the students and the officers. The members appreciated the students for their prowess in various fields, besides fluency in English communication skills. The members congratulated the TSWREIS for taking up various initiatives to empower students.

“The social welfare residential schools are running in the right direction in providing quality education to poor children, remarked Dr Bhatia, Joint Secretary. The members responded to different questions posed by the students in a question answer session. Dr Ashok Lahiri, said girls have more responsibility in making India a great country and asked to them to work hard in achieving their goals. 

Ajay Mishra, Special Chief Secretary, Social Welfare Department briefed the members about several programmes being taken up by the government of Telangana in imparting quality education in English medium to more than four lakh marginalized children under the KG-PG mission. The students explained the members about various activities like Coding, Mirror Project, English-Plus Clubs, Green Gurus, Summer Samurai camps, Operation Blue Crystal, healthcare services etc. 

Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS informed the members that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao set up a whopping 613 residential schools after the bifurcation of the state of Telangana. Dr Ravi Kota, Ramesh Chand among others visited the school.
