Hacks that will make solo travelling a breeze

A Perky Playlist

Thin Spice Girls and Fifth Harmony with a few Britney Spears and Taylor Swift numbers thrown in the mix, and of course your favourite Bollywood chartbusters. If you start your day knowing that you’re ‘worth it’, the day will surely be a blast!

Go with the flow

Even if you are particular about planning your vacation to the T, sometimes do things on an impulse. Spend hours wondering in a shopping mall, or sit by the beach and read your favourite book. Take time out to reconnect with yourself instead of constantly checking off items from your to-do list.

Pack light

This is easier said than done, but if you are on a vacation alone, a lighter backpack will make moving around much easier.

Live in the moment

Being a part of the internet generation, it takes real effort to not take a photograph of every meal you have and every time you come face-to-face with a picturesque sunset. Revel in the glory of the present and keep that Smartphone at bay.

Befriend the local community

Pick up phrases in the local language before you set out on your trip. Don’t be apprehensive about asking for help when you need it. Respect local culture and traditions and try to familiarise yourself more with them.

Have the documents handy

Keep your passport, currency, credit cards, copies of your tickets, and hotel information in your carry on at all times. Make sure you carry the photocopies instead of originals so that you don’t run the risk of losing important documents.

Take that group tour

Travelling alone gives you all the more incentive to go on walking tours and mingle with fellow travellers in hostels, pubs and other sightseeing spots.

Eating alone can be fun

When you have some recreation at hand, stream your favourite shows on your phone or tablet, read a book or a magazine and keep yourself entertained, ladies!

Always, safety first

If you are travelling on your own, remember to share details of your itinerary - hotel or any alternate phone numbers with your friends and family, so that they have a relative knowhow of your whereabouts.
