Mary Kom deserves Bharat Ratna

Kudos to Mary Kom, the 'Magnificent Mary', for becoming world number one woman boxer, winning six gold medals. Her life and success story can be a fountain head of inspiration for young people aspiring to be athletes worldwide. 

The way she had fought all odds of life, like limited resources, initial setbacks and the disadvantage of being mother of three and bounced back to championship after one and half decade and continuing to be winner in the ring is an extraordinary fete, reflecting her hard work, grit and complete dedication. 

The Manipuri jewel, par excellence deserves to be accorded with Bharat Ratna. India has high potential for sports and games with high demographic dividends. 

So it should promote sports and athletics among school going children in a big way and provide all support to the aspirants with state- of -art coaching centres.
