Settle water sharing disputes

Update: 2018-12-06 05:30 IST

Andhra Pradesh Government is raising serious objections on accounting of drawals of water from Krishna River at Nagarjuansagar Reservoir for drinking water supply to Hyderabad city, as per Bachawat Tribunal Award, thereby creating hindrances in implementing the Award in true spirit and cooperation. As a result, on an average Telangana is forced to lose a quantum of 15 TMC in the share of Krishna water for the last four years. Despite the clarification from Krishna Board (KRMB), Andhra Pradesh Govt is still objecting enforcement of the above said provision with indifferent attitude.

Hyderabad is a cosmopolitan city, being inhabited with people from all over the country including those from Andhra areas. The neighbouring Telugu state government should have thought humanely and render its acceptance to the Krishna Board for utilisation of drinking water of Hyderabad city, which lies completely within Krishna Basin, complying the provisions of the Award.

Further, the State of Andhra Pradesh is objecting to the rightful share of Telangana State in the waters being diverted from Pattiseema as per GWDT Award and wilfully with-holding the information/data on the said diversions. On the other hand, AP. is diverting huge quantities to the outside basin projects in Pennar basin etc, ignoring the legitimate in-basin requirements.  May wisdom prevails over the rulers of Andhra Pradesh in taking right approach so that water sharing will be done in cordial and equitable manner.
