Stalin’s opportunistic politics

Update: 2018-12-19 05:30 IST

When DMK President M.K. Stalin was dead against allying with Congress during the assembly polls in 2016 and also expressed his unhappiness over seat-sharing with that party, all of a sudden proposing Rahul Gandhi as prime ministerial candidate even when opposition parties had made it clear several times that choosing PM is only a post-poll exercise after the results are out only shows that differences  amongst the opposition still persists.

Notwithstanding the fact that Stalin was never close to Rahul and always been sceptical about his leadership abilities, this announcement comes as a huge surprise to all. Thus, DMK president Stalin's announcement appear to score a political point over others backfired after a few regional leaders took strong exception to his move saying it is premature.  Further, question arises as to what prompted Stalin to announce even as many issues in the front remain to be sorted out? However, as Stalin's opportunistic politics has come to the fore, one cannot but agree that Stalin like in the past can change his stand later like a chameleon.
