GHMC should work harder

Update: 2018-12-20 05:30 IST

The GHMC decision to curb open urination, levying heavy penalties on people who dump their construction and demolition wastes on roads, constructing temporary toilets near lakes and insisting on shop owners to place two dust bins in front of their shops etc are all laudable initiatives.

But before that , the GHMC has to repair existing toilets constructed by them earlier  which are defunct and full of waste materials thrown  around them.  The GHMC has to provide at least one toilet for every km of distance in addition to all important chowrastas, bastis and centres.  They may appoint watchmen for these and nominal charges of around Rs 2 to Rs 5 for different purposes  can be collected for proper maintenance.   It is often seen that some toilet agencies levy more than prescribed charges forcing users to not to use the same and go for outside urination. There should be a proper monitoring on all these by the GHMC.

The encroachments are many on many roads which have to be removed  with the assistance of traffic police and the autoes which stop their vehicles at bus bays should be penalised immediately or else it is becoming extremely difficult for the people to alight or board buses at these points.  The re-occurrence of pot-holes on almost all the roads of twin-cities has to be completely attended with reliable contractors in a specified time.

The people of Telangana have reposed immense faith in TRS and has brought the party to ruling with thumping majorities but it is sad that GHMC is contemplating revision of property tax no sooner it has come to power. The govt should desist from this step and help the residential property owners/senior citizens from the hike in municipal taxes as they have no other means of income for their survival in the most cost escalating society.  They are honestly paying taxes and filling up the state ex-chequer every time, and in fact the Govt should reduce the Property tax on them immediately for their trust in TRS.
