Farewell, dear George!

Update: 2019-01-30 05:30 IST

It is sad to hear news that one of tallest trade Union leader, a bitter critic of Congress - in particular Nehru-Gandhi family and RSS/Jan Sangh is no more.  Though PM Modi in his usual style paid rich tribute to the former Defence Minister in NDA government , he had his strong views against Jan Sangh/RSS and it was Emergency which made his join them to fight Ms Indira Gandhi.

Fernandes was first one to raise  the question of dual membership and spoke strongly  against Jan Sangh members holding RSS membership and over which issue the Janata Party collapsed. As a Union Minister he had to fight with his own government over bonus to railwaymen which was strongly opposed by Congress (O) and Jan Sangh members.

Of course later in the political innings he was able to understand the nature of Atalji better and managed to go along with him and his party.  I have strong doubt whether he would have stayed with the present NDA led by Modi/Shah and they must thank their stars for that. May his soul rest in peace.
