New Railway zone, a loss for AP

Update: 2019-03-03 05:30 IST

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday announced the new railway zone, as committed by the Centre under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014. But the Waltair division which generates higher revenue goes to the East Coast Zone. According to sources, the Waltair division netted Rs 7,053.12 crore revenue, including Rs 6,515.38 crore from freight and Rs 536.73 crore from passenger traffic, in 2017-18.

The new South Coast Railway (SCoR) comprises Guntur, Guntakal and Vijayawada divisions. Most of the revenue comes through the goods transportation which is now gone to the East Coast railway which is a major loss to the Andhra Pradesh revenue. People of Andhra Pradesh should be made aware of this loss and should unite to question the decision that has been taken on the new Railway Zone.
