ISRO successfully launches its 100th satellite from Sriharikota

India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) -C40 on Friday successfully placed the Cartosat-2 series satellite into sun-synchronous orbit after the satellite launch from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.

Launching India’s 100th satellite 'Cartosat-2 Series’,  a surveillance satellite, the PSLV-C40 launch vehicle is also carrying 30 other satellites, including three from India and 28 from six other countries.

With the mission life of five years, this satellite is the seventh remote sensing satellite in its series.

The total weight of all the 31 satellites is about 1,323kg. 

Today’s launch also marks the first launch for ISRO in 2018 following the setback suffered by the PSLV of navigation satellite IRNSS-1H in August last year.

According to ISRO, the 'Cartosat-2 Series' satellite uses include coastal land use regulation, monitoring urban and rural applications, managing services such as water distribution, road networks, detecting changes in geographical features and creation of land use maps.
