India continues to among top three nations where trust in government remains high
According to the Global Trust Index released annually in Davos, India continues to be among the top three nations where trust in government remains high.
Despite tough reforms such as demonetisation and goods and services tax, the ranking would surely come as good news for the Modi government.
Released by the communications marketing firm Edelman in Davos last week, the annual Global Trust Index showed India's trust rating across government, media, NGOs and business indicating one of the sharpest declines by 13 percentage points yet it remained in the 60-100 band marking popular 'trust' in institutions.
Coming to the media, it dropped five points since 2017, lowest at 61.
However, the overall high trust rating, particularly in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Davos where he addressed the benefits of tough and painful reforms like demonetisation and GST implementation, have come as a welcome news to the government.
The area needs to focus is to make businesses outside the country more reliable as it scored low on this parameter.
As per the report, the companies headquartered in Canada, Switzerland, Sweden and Australia were most trusted while country brands headquartered in Mexico, India, Brazil and China were the least.
Also, the trust factor in the US had suffered the largest-ever-recorded drop in the history of the survey among the general population. It fell nine points to 43 indicating a staggering lack of faith in government.
