BJP makes election promise to send Christians to Jerusalem for free

Update: 2018-02-14 19:26 IST

BJP is offering Christians free trips to Jerusalem if elected to power in Nagaland. As per the reports by the northeastern news outlets, BJP is offering this scheme for free, however, it is yet to be clear whether this stands for all the Christians in India or just those in Northeast or Nagaland.

Previously, the government cancelled subsidised Haj pilgrimages.

With the elections coming up in northeastern states - Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura, later this month, the BJP has come up with this offer.

In Nagaland, 88 percent of the population is Christian while almost 75 percent of the population is Christian in Meghalaya.

News outlet WeTheNagas tweeted, "The BJP has made an election promise to send Christians to Jerusalem on a free trip if elected to power in Nagaland.”

Meanwhile, the UNI news agency stated that the trip has been offered only to the Christians in Nagaland.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi also took to Twitter saying, "BJP promises to send Christians on a free trip. I was right, BJP continues with a subsidy if it suits its electoral needs. This is (what BJP means by) 'India first’.”
