Man, dead two years ago, fathers twins
In a one-of-its-kind incident, the cryo-preserved semen from a man who died of a cerebral tumour two years ago, was used to fertilise a women. The woman, who is the aunt of the dead man, delivered twin baby boys a couple of days ago in Pune.
This was done because the mother of the dead man wanted to have grand children born out of him. According to the doctors, who performed the in-vitro fertilization, the man was diagnosed with brain tumour in 2013 in Germany. Before his chemotherapy cycles began, the doctors preserved his semen.
Later, he died in 2016. The boy’s mother got the cryo preserved semen of her son from Germany and approached the doctors to fertilise the egg of one of his aunts, so that they could have his baby. Accordningly, an IVF procedure was performed in Sahyadri Hospital in Pune.
Interestingly, the dead man’s mother was ready to carry the eggs in her womb. But, the doctors found her to be medically unfit. The fertilization was performed in May 2017 and the conception was confirmed in June. Twin boys were born on Monday.
