Here’s one state assembly that hasn’t seen a woman in all its 54 years of existence. Nagaland, which is going to polls this month, is yet to see a woman MLA. This time around, five women are contesting the elections, up from 3 in the last elections. Interestingly, except for one, all the women candidates are first timers.

Interestingly, Nagaland did have a woman MP. Rano Shaiza of the  United Democratic Party is  the first and only woman in this state. She won an election in 1977.
