JNU students want compulsory attendance clause to go

New Delhi: Cracking down on the unruly students who stormed the administrative block and prevented two senior officials from leaving, the New Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University authorities have filed two FIRs on Saturday. The Delhi police filed FIRs for wrongful restraining ot rector Chintamani Mahapatra and another officials.

Another FIR has been filed agains the students for blocking the road at the administrative office. The students were demanding the withdrawal of compulsory attendance in the University.

The university has made it mandatory that the students should have at least 75 per cent attendance in a semester. In the event of not having 75 per cent attendance, the students would not be able to get their fellowships and scholarships. Protesting against this, the students formed human chains and prevented the officials from leaving the administrative building.

Protesting against the high-handed behaviour of the students, some teachers sat on a dharna. This led to slogans and counter slogans.
