Gujarat local body poll counting begins
Ahmedabad: In the first test of BJP government’s popularity in Gujarat, the results of the local body polls held on Saturday would be out on Monday. The counting begins for 75 municipalities in Gujarat. The polling was also conducted for two district panchayats, 17 taluka panchayats and 1,400 village panchayats. The polling was by and large peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.
The State Election Commission also conducted voting for A total of wards and 1988 seats went to elections and the people voted in 2763 polling stations. Over 15,000 polling personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
In the Saturday poll, Dahod recorded the highest turnout of 76.67 percent while Rajkot had the lowest turnout at 50.17 percent.
In the last local body polls, the BJP had won 107 seats out of total 123 seats in 2016.
