Finally, Amarinder Singh rolls out red carpet for Canadian PM Justin Trudeau

Amritsar: Ending confusion over his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will hold a meeting in Amritsar with him on Thursday.

Amarinder was peeved at being denied an opportunity to meet the Canadian Sikhs during in 2015 in the run up to the assembly elections. He termed the Canadian restrictions a gag order and wrote a strongly worded letter to Trudeau. He had also refused to meet Canadian defence minister Harjit Sajjan during the latter’s visit to Punjab last year.He had even called Sajjan a Khalistani supporter.

However, setting aside the issue, Amarinder Singh will meet Trudeau after the latter offered a prayer at the Golden Temple. At the Golden Temple, Trudeu would be offered a Siropa, replica of the temple and a Sikh sword.

Canada is home to a huge Sikh population and the Canadian Sikhs are an important part of the local sikh politics. Strogn pro-Khalistani lobb has been accused of influencing the Canadian Government and this has strained the relations between the two countries.
