The case was registered on the complaint of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Earlier in the day, Minister of State Women and Child Welfare Vidya Thakur in Maharashtra government spoke to Mumbai's Commissioner of Police (CP) about the incident and directed him to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, demands of Papon's arrest are being made.

Supreme Court Advocate Runa Bhuyan said, "Some developments have happened, but I would request DGP Maharashtra to expedite the investigation so that one doesn't commit such crimes liberally. The singer should be arrested immediately for his actions."

Meanwhile, Papon maintained a defensive stance with a lengthy reply on his Facebook page.

"Please note that a girl in question and her family have gone on record and stated that what is being depicted is not what actually transpired and it is in fact just a case of faulty camera angles and an accidental move and not a sexual assault as being reported. The said incident transpired in the presence of personnel from the reality show and there is nothing objectionable about it," said the under-fire singer.
