Stage set for Isro’s GSAT-6A onboard GSLV Mk II launch

The stage is set for the launch of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s communication satellite GSAT-6A with onboard GSLV Mk II rocket which is set to take off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday at 4.56 pm and the countdown for the satellite began today at 1.56 pm.

The 27-hour countdown activity was cleared by the mission readiness review committee and launch authorisation board.

This is the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle’s 12th flight and sixth flight with an indigenous cryogenic stage.

The high power S-band communication satellite weighs 2140kg and holds a mission life for 10 years.

GSAT-6A is set to provide a platform for developing technologies - handheld ground terminals, demonstration of 6m S-Band unfurlable antenna, and network management techniques, useful in future satellite-based mobile communication applications.
