A Railway Protection Force constable on Monday night came to the rescue of a 25-year-old woman on an MRTS train after a man tried to sexually assault her. The incident took place on an MRTS train heading from Velachery to Chennai Beach.

The RPF constable K Shivaji, another constable and sub-inspector S Subbiah, a part of the night patrol squad heard screams from the adjacent women’s coach around 11.45 pm.

With the MRTS trains not having a vestibule, the chances of traveling from one coach to another are easier. Hence, the RPF constable waited till the train slowed down before Park Town and jumped out on the platform. He immediately rushed to the neighboring coach and found the accused, S Satyaraj trying to assault the woman.

He rescued the woman who was found unconscious. The other members of the team called for an ambulance and rushed her to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where doctors informed that her condition is stable.

The Government Railway Police arrested the accused for the attempt to rape and later a court sent him to jail.
