Government to boost electric car usage in a big way

The Government is planning a big boost to electric and hybrid vehilcles. It has put in place an ambitious Rs 9400 crore package for these vehicles. It would offer incentives to those who scrap the old petrol and diesel vehicles and would give sops to the makers of spares for these vehicles.

As part of the package,those buying the electric two-wheelers costing up to Rs 1.5 lakh will get around Rs 30,000 worth of incentives. There are incentives for cab aggregators, bus fleet owners. Those who buy electric cars will get sops of up to 1.5 to Rs 2.5 lakh towards incentives. 

These are currently in the draft shape and will soon be finalized. Sources said that in all metros and million plus cities, there would be a charging station every nine kms. For the highways, there would be one charging centre for every 25 km.
