Karnataka elections: Counting Begins
The counting of votes for the Karnataka Assembly polls began from 8 am on Tuesday, the May 15. A massive 72.36 per cent turnout has raised interest levels about the outcome of the elections in this all-important state. The Siddaramaiah-led Congress and Yeddiyurappa-led BJP are locked in a edge-of-the-seat combat.
The Congress and the BJP have contested all the seats, while the third force Janata Dal Secular has fought in 201 seats. Its ally BSP contested 21 seats. With most exit polls and surveys predicting a cliff-hanger, the interest in the outcome has heightened. If both the BJP and Congress fail to secure the absolute majority, the JDS will become a crucial player.
