Bats not the primary source of Nipah virus

In the recent epidemic caused by Nipah virus, fruit bats and pigs were considered as the primary sources of the virus.

Samples were collected from fruit bats from Kozhikode and Malappuram districts,the main affected areas, and all of them have tested negative for the virus which rules them out as the primary source of the virus.

The medical team is now looking into other animals as possibilities for being  primary sources for the virus.
