Youngest mountaineer to climb six peaks above 8,000 metres
On Last Sunday, Arjun Vajpai from Noida climbed Mt. Kanchenjunga making him the youngest mountaineer to climb six peaks above 8,000 metres.
His father Sanjiv Vajpai, is also proud of the fact that he did so without losing any of his limbs and fingers which is a rarity while scaling peaks.
Arjun did go through some close calls during his expedition. While scaling the Kanchenjunga, Arjun’s oxygen bottle malfunctioned causing his toes to freeze and for the final ridge, the team had run out of equipment causing 20-30 to hang onto a rope with a diameter twice that of a USB.
Arjun reached the summit at exactly 8:05 AM and spent 15 minutes savouring the moment. However, he felt the strain of oxygen shortage.
This is the second time he has scaled the Kanchenjunga - Arjun credited this time’s success to proper planning and team effort.
Arjun had several close calls while climbing other peaks but so far he has succeeded in climbing the Kanchenjunga and several other peaks. His goal is to scale all the 14 eight thousanders - peaks over 8,000 metres.
