Satellite powered warning system at railway crossings : Trials prove satisfactory

Update: 2018-05-29 03:28 IST

Space Applications Center Director, Tapan Misra said the one-year phase-1 trial period for the warning system has been completed, and was satisfactory.

The trial, undertaken by Indian Railways began a year ago, to warn motorists at railway crossings about the incoming trains using hooters. The system is mechanised using ISRO-developed IC chips installed onto the railway engines. Based on the proximity between the train and the crossing (500m - 4KM), a hooter would get activated to warn motorists to refrain from using the crossing at the time.
