YSRCP MPs meet Speaker, seek nod for resignations

New Delhi: YSRCP MPs here on Tuesday met the Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan, and insisted on their resignations be accepted as they had submitted them as per norms in Speaker's Format.

Earlier, speaking to the media, Nellore MP Mekapati Rajmohan Reddy said they were prepared to go to the elections whenever they were held once their resignations were accepted. He said all the five YSRCP MPs had resigned following a call given by their leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to apply pressure on the Centre to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Referring to the criticism of the TDP leaders over the delay in their resignations getting accepted, Rajmohan Reddy said  it was up to the Speaker to take the decision. Comparing their resignations with that of B S Yeddyurappa was farcical as Yeddyurappa had resigned to contest the Assembly elections and got elected as and MLA and hence it was irrelevant to compare the two.

He also referred to the resignations made during bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh and said there was delay even then. It only went to show that the TDP leadership and particularly, N Chandrababu Naidu, were afraid of facing the YSRCP in the elections as and when they were held.

Perhaps, Naidu might not even field his candidates on the pretext that the YSRCP MPs had resigned for the SCS and hence he should not field contenders. AP voters were ready to reject Naidu roundly as and when elections were held and his crocodile tears now over SCS would not convince anyone.
