BJP Unaware Of What Is Yet To Come And What They Are Up Against?

Update: 2018-06-21 15:50 IST

It is something to be sure about and that is BJP having tough challenges ahead. The smooth surf is over. Now the struggle for a renewed mandate begins. Voters today are as disappointed and as angry with them as they were with UPA2 a year ahead of the last Lok Sabha polls. The only difference is that not everyone is saying it aloud, as they did then. People did not hold back their anger against the Congress. They voiced it openly and fearlessly in every forum. And Manmohan Singh was a soft target.

This time, it’s different. People have started speaking out, including some of BJP’s own people, but the anger is silenced. Not because they are less angry but because there’s an unspoken fear. People fear they will be targeted by the Government and its agencies. It happened during the Congress years too. Its critics were often victimized.True, there were no social media trolling in those times and the hounding of its critics was done by the Congress with far greater finesse. Information is the biggest asset in a conflict.

BJP doesn't seem to be knowing who is against them and their anger. And, in an election year, that is dangerous. You don’t know who you are up against. So you will never know how to tackle them. And unfortunately, the BJP being a rich bania party, thinks that all solutions to its problems lie in money. The truth is just the opposite. In politics, none of the important problems can be solved with money.

Everybody is playing mind games today. That is the only way they can hedge their bets. For they see the Opposition in strikeback mode. They may not think very highly of their ability to work together or find a unanimous leader,They could well vote against BJP this time. Who will be the face of the Opposition is a question no one really cares about. For the voter is never worried about who will come next. They know only what they do not want.

BJP has no connection whatsoever with the world of art and culture. It has no connection with the intellectual community either. That is why it does not understand today’s India at all. Agreed that thinking people have never formed a large vote bank, not in India, not anywhere in the world, but if you entirely ignore all thinking people and run your politics with people of low calibre and even lower understanding of our history, our culture, our values, our economy, you will at some stage run into problems. Popularity alone cannot keep a government in power.

The Modi government began with huge popularity. The great unwashed masses of middle India loved it. They loved the Prime Minister for his oratory and charm. But, like all good things, the euphoria is fading. And the Prime Minister is sharp enough to know why. That is why he keeps telling his flock to stop talking so much and do some real work instead. He is right. Every time his people open their mouths, votes are lost.

The Prime Minister has had no time till now for thought leaders. He prefers sportsmen and movie stars.Currently, all he is seeing is what he wants to see and what those around him want him to see. And that is never the best thing for any Prime Minister.
