Gadkari reviews Polavaram works
New Delhi: Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday reviewed the ongoing works of the Polavaram project ahead of his scheduled visit to the project site on July 11. This visit assumes importance as it would be the first one by the Union minister after the TDP severed its ties with the NDA.
Gadkari reportedly sought updates on all aspects of the works from the officials of the Polavaram authority and also reviewed the timeline for completion of works.
Laying emphasis on early completion of the project, Gadkari reviewed the funding of the project too, sources said. Amid differences over the contribution of the Centre to the project as per the guidelines of the AP Reorganization Act, 2014, Gadkari also reviewed the Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) package funding.
The state government is seeking full reimbursement of the R&R while the Centre has been reluctant to oblige. The stand of the Centre will be clear only after his visit to the project site after a couple of days, it is said.
