New Delhi: Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Wednesday visited a school in Hauz Qazi area of the city where 16 kindergarten students were allegedly confined to the basement over non-payment of fees.

Tiwari, accompanied by party leaders, also met some parents who were protesting outside the school premises.

The opposition leader questioned Delhi's Environment Minister Imran Hussain, who also holds the Food and Civil Supplies portfolio, over the incident, saying the school was close to his camp office in the area.

"People want to know what steps he took about the incident before it was highlighted by the media," Tiwari said.

The incident came to light after the police was informed by some parents that 16 children were confined to the school's basement by their teachers between 7 am to 12 noon on Monday in central Delhi's Hauz Qazi area, the police had said on Tuesday.

A case was registered against the school authorities, the police said, adding that they were looking for the person responsible for the incident.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought a report from the education department on the incident and will visit the school with his deputy Manish Sisodia on Thursday.
