Four nominations to Rajya Sabha announced by President
NEW DELHI: Rakesh Sinha, a RSS follower, is nominated to Rajya Sabha by the President on the recommendation of the Government of India. Sonal Mansingh, a well known classical dancer and Raghunath Mohapatra, an artiste and Ram Shakal, former UP MP and dalit leader were also nominated by President Ram Nath Kovind.
The Constitution of India gives a facility to the President to nominate 12 MPs to Rajya Sabha with a practical experience in respect of social service, science, art and literature.
A Padma Vibhushan awardee, Sonal Mansingh, is a popular Odissi and Bharatanatyam dancer. A celebrated choreographer, social activist, orator and also a teacher. In 1997, he founded the Centre for Indian Classical Dances.
Founder of “Indian Policy Foundation” and a leader of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Rakesh Sinha, is also an associate professor at Delhi University’s Motilal Nehru College. He is also an author and a columnist.
A three term Member of Parliament from UPs Robertsganj constituency, Ram Shakal is a former BJP lawmaker. He has worked for farmers, labourers and migrants.
A Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, Raghunath Mohapatra is an architect from Odisha. He is famously known for a six feet high statue of the Sun God in the Central Hall of Parliament and the Wooden Buddha in Paris’ Buddha Temple.
