Former PM Manmohan Singh says he expected successors to keep his promise on special status
NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, during a discussion on the special status of Andhra Pradesh, former PM Manmohan Singh said that he had expected his successors to keep his promise on the special status to Andhra Pradesh.
“Government is a continuing entity. Commitments made on the floor of the House are to be honoured and fulfilled. They are in the nature of an assurance on behalf of Parliament. I had expected my distinguished successor to fulfil the commitment I had made after consultation with his own colleagues,” he said in the Rajya Sabha.
Former Union Minister Y.S.Chowdary, a TDP MP, said, “The people of my state feel there is a Centrally sponsored lynching going on against them as they are forced to bleed for resources and Central assistance by being deprived of their entitlements. And what is the offence committed by the people of AP? The offence is they believed in the Central government of the day, they believed in the Central government of the day, they believed in the BJP for about four long years.”
He added that, “There is parallel political pattern unfolding in AP even as our CM was struggling day and night to build the future of the people af AP. The core element of this pattern has been that BJP has begun to discover the new ‘Your’s Sincere and Reliable Compromised Partner’(YSRCP).”
Over 90% of the commitments in the Act were implemented and the government is committed to implementing all promises made by the former PM said Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister.
